Entries:    (IMPORTANT)
Step 1:
All entries must be given to the club coach before the time and date he requests, so your coach can enter your wrestler online before Friday afternoon.

Step  2: We understand that sometimes a wrestler gets sick or family plans change, and a wrestler who was entered earlier will not be able to compete on Sunday.  For us to determine when this is the case, we ask all wrestlers to check in on Sunday morning when they arrive at the tournament.  To check-in, a wrestler must come to the check–in table of his/her age group, and let the person at the table know you have arrived.  They will at that time officially check the wrestler in.  All wrestlers who check in will then have the top of their hand marked in some way indicating to you as a parent they are officially checked in.  If a wrestler does not check in at Columbine HS on Sunday morning, before the check-in time deadline (listed below), they will be scratched from the tournament.  Please pay attention to your check in time, so we do not have to say “sorry” to your wrestler.

Highlands Ranch Youth Tournament

Highlands Ranch YOUTH WRESTLING TOURNAMENT (12/6/2015)

The Highlands Ranch youth tournament will be held at Highlands Ranch High School on Sunday, December 6th.  Highlands Ranch is located at located at 9375 Cresthill Lane, Highlands Ranch, CO 80130. Parking will be available on the south side of the HS off Cresthill Lane.  The athletic door entrance to the school will be the only entrance available for entry; the doors will open at 10:00AM.

Wrestlers will get an X marked on their hand when they check in. If they don’t have a check they are not entered in the tournament. They should then go to the main gym until they are called for staging. We will do the staging in lower gym for 6&U and 8&U and upper gym for 10&U, 12&U, and 14&U.

Entry Deadline:All entries must be entered on line by the coach by Friday December 4th by 6:00pm.  No wrestlers will be added after this time. This will help us get the tournament going sooner and run smoother. Please don’t show up Sunday morning and asked to be added.

Check in:  6&U and 10&U should check in no later 10:45 am.  8&U, 12&U, and 14&U should check in no later 11:30 am.

We will start wrestling for 6&U and 10&U at 11:15 am, and 8&U, 12&U, and 14&U will start wrestling at 12:00-12:15 pm.

Tournament Procedure:   We will use 4 mats divided into 12 sections. We will call wrestlers to staging by age groups. Staging will occur in the auxiliary guy to the south.  We will group them by their brackets and walk them to the mat they will be wrestling on. They should stay at that mat until they wrestle twice. We will hand out the medals immediately after their second match.

Medals will be awarded for 1st–4th place.  We will use a four-man bracket with winners advancing to the championship side and the losers advancing to the consolations bracket.

Cost

There will be a $2.00 charge for adults at the door. If you have the exact amount we can get people in much faster.

Weight Class and Age Division

Age division includes 6 & under, 8 & under, 10 & under, 12 & under, and 14 & under.  Brackets will be developed by age, weight and years of experience. As much as possible.

Officials and Table Help

High school wrestlers will provide officiating.  Table help and score keeping will be provided by high school mat managers.  These people are donating their time and energy (w/out pay) to assure that the tournament progresses smoothly.  If a parent has a question about a particular call or the score – please see one of your coaches to resolve the conflict rather than disrupting the person officiating or scoring. All clubs should bring flipper scores, ankle bands, and clocks.  Each club should bring enough kids to run one mat section. Timer, Score Keeper, Referee, and someone to help with medal and brackets. (4 people).

No Coaching at Mat Side

As coaches we want wrestling to be a fun and pleasurable experience for your son.  We encourage you to stay in the bleachers and cheer for your favorite wrestler.  We ask that you do not go to the mat side and coach your son.  This will only confuse him and intimidate his opponent.  Our coaching staff does their coaching in the practice room – your son makes his own decisions come match time.  The tournament provides him an opportunity to try out his skills without undue pressure.  Please remember that wrestling is not a fight but rather a contest.  The match starts with a handshake and ends with a handshake.  As coaches we believe that much can be learned about one’s self through one on one competition.

Participating Schools

Aurora (Rangeview), Eaglecrest, Cherry Creek, Cherokee Trail, Englewood, Vista Peak, Legend, and Elite (Hinkley).Arapahoe, Heritage, Conifer, Lakewood, Mountain Vista, Valor, Evergreen, Columbine, Highlands Ranch, Rock Canyon, Bailey, Conifer.

All clubs should remain until all the mats are placed where they need to be.  Every club should help clean up.

Thanks

Tim Welch
